The current catches of the German shrim-fishermen in the early summer of 2016 indicate a warming of the southern North Sea. In May, cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) and squid (Loligo forbesii) were caught. An "asparagus jellyfish", the egg clutch of the Forbes squid, was pictured on the top left, and an egg cluster of the squid on the top right. These animals now like to spawn regularly in the North Sea because it has become so nice and warm here... There were also a few blonde rays (Raja brachyura) and a real shark light: juvenile dogfish (Galeorhinus galeus), which were apparently born near the East Frisian Islands. In addition, oval swimming crabs (Portumnus latipes) from Northwest-Africa and dwarf hermit crabs (Diogenes pugilator), which need warmth to thrive, were also landed. Despite this faunal evidence of global warming, there are indeed still plenty of ignorant people who reject the fact of global warming as a result of anthropogenic influences. I suspect that this consistent ignorance is meant to justify their own immoderate consumerism. In any case, nothing surprises me any more...
